This song has been on loop on my music playlist for this holiday season. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is a familiar Christmas tune with a new jazz rendition by the very talented John Legend and Esperanza Spalding. Released on 28 November 2018, the video has already crossed 2.4 million views in less than a month.
Watch this Christmas classic shot against warm lighting that has charming scenes with kids playing responsible roles during Christmas sharing cookies and milk, the traditional Christmas dinner, going carol singing, performing gigs, decorating the tree, dressed as Santa Claus, Chef, Ballerina, Trumpet Player and even a Firefighter! All this and a perfect harmony by the duo, where both John and Esperanza can be seeing pitching those notes as if experimenting with the original song introduced by Judy Garland in the musical ‘Meet Me in St. Louis.’ Ranked as the third most performed song by ASCAP in 2007, the song was composed by Hugh Martin and written by Ralph Blane. Many greats from Bing Cosby, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Luther Vandross, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble to Sam Smith have released covers of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Even Musique Artiste of the Month - Florence K, whom we had featured on Interactif earlier this year in August has jazzed up the song during an impromptu session at Indigo Manulife Centre in Toronto back in 2010.
And now just sit back and watch the live version of the duet on ‘The Voice’ with the amazing John Legend on the piano and Esperanza Spalding - the first jazz artist to win a Grammy for Best New Artist. Make sure to put this to your holiday playlist.
